Frequently Asked Questions

Why the name 52 Clix?

The team at 52 Clix was funded by an unknown venture capitalist with an initial investment of 20 million dollars. We took all 20 million and created a research project whereby 100,000 monkeys sit in a room to come up with the greatest photo-related Web site name known to man. The project took nearly a decade, but the name 52 Clix emerged and we're stoked!

Okay, so maybe that isn't entirely true. The 52 in 52 Clix is the number of weeks in a year. Since our themes are posted weekly, this number seemed fitting. Initially, the plan was to be 52 Clicks, but the domain was taken at the time. We steamed ahead with Clix, which serendipitously lead to the quirky, fun name for our assignments, Clixies. We've since procured 52clicks.com and it redirects to the official site, 52clix.com.

How do I create a photo assignment for others?

Click the "Create Assignment" button found on the home page or on the right-hand column of some pages. You may also click "My Clix" in the navigation links at the top of the page. Then click "Create a Clixie" on the left-hand navigation.

How do I upload a photo?

Browse the Clixies that are submitting by clicking the "Clixies" link in the site's top navigation. To upload a photo, click the green "Submit Now" button next to a Clixie's name.

How do I increase the quality of the photo I upload?

Resize your photo in a image editing program like Photoshop to the exact size we use on our Web site. The width must be exactly 388 pixels or the height must be exactly 362 pixels. Make sure the file size is no bigger than 90k and then upload to our site. We will post the photo exactly as you saved it.

What browsers do you support?

We have tested 52Clix.com on IE 6 & 7, Firefox 2 & 3 for Windows and Mac and Safari for Mac. We do not officially support any other browser, such as Opera, at this time.

Can all members see my friends' Clixies?

If a Clixie is Friends-Only for photo submissions and photo scoring, only friends of that member can see that assignment. Also, any photo submitted to the Friends-Only assignment will only be visible to the friends of the member who created the Clixie.

Why can't I see the upload target area?

Our upload tool requires Java. Make sure Javascript is turned on.

If you continue to have trouble uploading, try using our Simple Uploader. Click the link "Simple Uploader" below the upload box. You must resize your photos yourself if you use the Simple Uploader.

How does scoring work?

During the 1-week scoring period for Clixies, members score others' photos. The raw average of the scoring is shown after the scoring period ends. However, the photos are sorted according to a Fairness Algorithm that 52 Clix came up with, which partly includes the raw scoring average. This means a photo that displays a lower score may appear ahead of a photo with a higher score.

What is My Stats?

My Stats gives you an overview of your activities on 52 Clix. Medals are awarded for Rank, Participation and Generosity. The medals are platinum, gold, silver and bronze. Rank is your photo popularity ranking and is determined by how others score your photos and otherwise act positively towards your photos. Participation is how often you submit a photo per week since you joined 52 Clix. Finally, Generosity is how often you score other members' photos.

Presently, only you can see your stats. However, we plan to place the medals on your public member profile page soon.

What are points?

Points are a way of highlighting the best 52 Clix members! You earn points by interacting with the site, such as uploading and scoring photos, creating Clixies and more. In the future, points will allow you to unlock rewards on the site.

Your points will also go down if you engage in behavior that isn't conducive to a positive 52 Clix community.

Why is the photographer hidden when scoring?

We give you the option to keep the photographer a secret while scoring. Sometimes if you see a photo by your friend, you might be inclined to score the photo higher. However, if there's an awesome photo and you want to know who took it or check out other photos by that member, you just have to click "show the photographer."

How do I delete my account?

You may delete your account from 52 Clix by clicking the "Delete my account" link found in "my account" at the top right of every page on 52 Clix.

Deleting your account will remove your profile, photos, compliments, comments and private messages entirely from 52 Clix. You control your own data at all times.
